James Mitchell
B.A. (Psychology and Sociology), M.A. (Conflict Analysis and Mgmt.)

James Mitchell’s human services career focuses on providing services to citizens and segments of the population who have been marginalized within society and lack the means to meet their needs through conventional processes. After attaining two degrees, one in psychology and the other in sociology, as well as working extensively in the community at a grass roots level, James decided to address the “macro” society issues that give rise to conflicts he observed. Thus, he obtained a Master of Arts Degree in Conflict Analysis and Management from Royal Roads University. He specialized in Social Political and Ethnic conflicts and after completing his degree, returned to the university as a faculty team member to provide instruction and guidance to students from all specializations.

Along with his role as executive director of the South Island Dispute Resolution Centre Society in Victoria, James is also a faculty member of The Diamond Institute for Integral Learning. James continues to focus his efforts on community-based mediation and facilitation services, community partnerships and community-based skills training. He is working to bring the skills of effective conflict management to all members of his community, with a special emphasis on youth. James is also active on the board of directors for the View Royal Youth Drop in Centre Society and a member of the Advisory Social Planning Committee for the City of Victoria.
