Celebrations Para Pan American Games Project
May 20, 2015 - The ALACD, with the support of the Government of Canada, is pleased to launch a Canada-wide initiative promoting awareness of the Para PanAmerican Games and the value of physical activity for individuals with disabilities. The initiative will include 20 community events across Canada. These events, expected to engage an estimated 1500 Canadians, will involve a Paralympic athlete speaking series, Para sport demonstrations, and mini Para PanAm Games. A second part of the initiative will comprise a series of weekly stories which highlight the extent to which Canadians with disabilities are successfully engaged in inclusive activities.” .

Active Living Alliance for Canadians with a Disability Strategic Planning

December 15, 2014 - On this, our 25th Anniversary, the Active Living Alliance for Canadians with a Disability is delighted to share with you our Strategic Plan (2014-2018). I encourage you to share this plan with your colleagues and partners.

Go4KIDDS Survey

February 23, 2015 - A recent survey on school aged children and youth with severe and complex developmental disabilities found over 70% are not involved in sport and over 60% are not able to be involved in community activities. The survey "go4kidds" or Great Outcomes for Kids Impacted by Severe Developmental Disabilities - A Survey of Health, Well-being and Social Inclusion was a multi-year research project funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. Active Living Alliance and McMaster University Partner to Catalogue Physical Activity, Exercise and Active Living Information for Canadians with Disabilities
January 13, 2015 - ALACD, in partnership with researchers from McMaster University, are working to create a catalogue of resources used to promote sport, exercise and active living among Canadians with a disability. The goal of this project is to create an easily accessible, comprehensive list of physical activity informational resources available to Canadian children, youth and adults with disabilities. Cataloging this information will also show where we still have gaps in the informational resources available to the community, and avoid future duplication. This collection of resources will focus on educational resources that enhance increased physical activity rather than community activity programs. More...

Land Connections
A program through the McMichael Art Gallery to bring seniors with disabilities, as well as children and youth with developmental and cognitive disabilities, into its arts programming.

The project also created a best practices guide based on their experience, for other museums and galleries to use.

The TeachAble Project
The TeachAble Project is to support Ontario school boards improving their compliance with the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation. The project developed curriculum pieces around accessibility and worked to raise awareness of accessibility among students.
