Labour Market Information

Labour Market Information, sometimes refered to as LMI, is a technical term that describes what work is most in demand.  You don't have to be an expert on the local economy when looking for work or choosing a career, but it is important for you to know where to find LMI, to make sure you look for employment in fields that offer lots of opportunity, now and in the future!

Labour Market Information (LMI) includes information on:
  • Employment and Unemployment Rates
  • Job Openings (called "Employment Prospects") - now and in the future
  • Employment Sectors
  • Wages (per hour & salary)
  • Job Descriptions
  • Skills Needed (including Essential Skills)
  • Education & other Training Requirements
Tips on Becoming LMI "Savvy"
  • Be curious - look at the world around you

What kind of employers seem to always be hiring?

Who's making the big money?

How did those people get those jobs?

What education do they have?

  • Get Informed - Start searching the internet or your local library for employment information

To get started, go to the Google search engine, and enter the following terms followed by the city/town you are interested in working in:

"Labour Market Information", "Economy", "Employment Prospects", "In Demand Jobs", "Hot Jobs", "Hot Industries"

  • Get Connected - Explore the employment resources in your area, and get help from people who study this kind of information for a living!

Remember there are tons of FREE employment resources available to you.  Click HERE to find the one that is nearest to you!

  • Question Information - It is important to note, that everyone you talk to, and every website or article you read will have different, and sometimes conflicting, information.  Don't get sucked by a school or site that boasts about offering training for the #1 career around.  Question and compare information you get, and ultimately make the best decision for you.
