The BC provincial government is working to ensure BC residents understand the importance of health, physical activity and “lifestyle choices.”
BC will invest $30 million in the promotion of healthy, active living. This investment will be distributed through two programs, “BC Healthy Living Alliance” and “2010 Legacies Now.”
BC Healthy Living Alliance will receive $25.2 million to: promote wellness, support chronic disease prevention, enhance health, sport and recreation organizations and increase health-promoting environments within communities.
2010 Legacies Now will receive $4.8 million to “support physical activity and healthy lifestyles and to collaborate with local governments and partner organizations to increase the proportion of the BC population who are physically active” (from Chetwynd Echo, Friday, Mar 31).
Sport and recreation reduce strain on our health system by promoting well being and preventing disease. It is encouraging to see the government of BC take sport and recreation so seriously.
